C for Chantal and A for Alice

A: Hi Chantal, I believe most of NiSi’s users and ambassadors are familiar with you, but could you please introduce yourself to more our new friends? What’s your job? Are you a full-time photographer?

C: I work part time as a graphic designer in an advertising agency and meanwhile I am a self-employed professional photographer focusing on Landscape and Seascape photography.

A: How did you get interested with photography? And please introduce the cameras and lens that you usually use.

C: My passion for photography came from the enthusiasm of traveling. When I photographed the steep cliffs of the Algarve in Portugal for the first time, it was clear that this was not my last photo trip. Meanwhile, I have visited large parts of Portugal and many other European countries. I found my desire for photography and travel has not diminished.

I work with the Canon EOS 6D. My most used lenses are the Canon EF 16-35mm f / 2.8L III USM, Venus Optics Laowa 12mm and Canon EF70-200mm f / 4L IS USM.

A: Thanks for your story in Portugal. Among all the spots you have headed to shoot, is there any place that is unforgettable? If it exist, what kind of place is?

C: My most memorable landscape photograph was taken in an ice cave, during my recent trip to Iceland . To reach this cave I have been hiking over a glacier for over an hour and I was able to enjoy this surreal scenery until I reached the spot. The weather was sunny at noon and the colors in the ice cave were overwhelmingly intense. I have not seen such a place before.

A: When do you prefer to shoot in a day? You know, some photographers find it’s difficult to find a perfect shooting spot, do you have the same trouble? How do you go through with that?

C: I prefer to take pictures in the early morning with sunrise or at the end of the day with sunset. Like most photographers, I always wait for the right light, in the hope that a bit of color comes into play.

A: You mentioned that have been abroad for traveling and shooting, could you share some unique experience during the journey?

C: I have been traveling to the most beautiful places in Europe for several years. With so many places, I find it very difficult to choose a specific experience. A nice memory is an evening in the Portuguese mountains.

A: That sounds fantastic!

C: Yes, and coincidentally, I met some photographers on the roadside and spent a nice evening with a dinner under the stars of Portugal before shooting the Milky Way.

A: Absolutely a pleasure experience…and our reader might curious about what are your hobbies, certainly, besides photography?

C: Since working, traveling and photography take a lot of time, I can not say that I have other hobbies. I’m lucky enough to be able to mix my hobby with my job. But I also find relaxation when I am hiking or taking a walk trough the nature.

A: Among all your photos, which one you like best? How did you create this shot?

C: There are pictures that I like to watch again and again. Currently, I really like my Seascape series from Diamond Beach on Iceland. The conditions were very good, with the soft and atmospheric sunrise. The waves that play around the ice blocks have cast a spell over me. A great place for seascape lovers!

A: I notice that it always appear a soft and romantic atmosphere in your photos, do you like the style of your photos?

C: I think each photographer develops his own style. Of course I like it very much, as the light and the colors are soft and a romantic mood can be found in my pictures, but certainly, the mood of a photo is always dependent on the weather, fortunately I have these chances.

A: As an experienced landscape and seascape photographer, perhaps you have some precious experiences deserve to share to other photographers?

C: Go out and get to know your camera. Forget the comfortable automatic mode but to experiment with the possibilities. Use the best light of the day and think about composition. And be Adventurous. You just need to keep your eyes open!
