D for Daniel and A for Alice
A: Hi Daniel, glad to hear that you are going to attend Photokina 2018 and present for NiSi! I believe that audiences would be curious about your experience. So firstly, could you introduce yourself to us?
D: Hi. My Name is Daniel Rauch, 32 years old, I was born and live in Bavaria, Germany. I love traveling to to visit different cultures, landscapes and of course, taste some new food.
A: So, were you fall in love with photography during your trips? At the beginning, what did you shoot? Please introduce the cameras and lens that you usually use.
D: I begun around 8 years ago with a Nikon D90 and a Sigma 18-200 Zoom Lens.
At the beginning I really photographed everything! My parents, my pets, trees, flowers and much more things around me! I try lots of angles to know more about ‘how my camera works’. But now, I work with a Nikon D800 and Nikon’s 14-24mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8 and the 70-200mm 2.8 VRII, which are called The Holy Trinity.
A: Interesting! Among all the spots you have headed to shoot, which one is most unforgettable for you?
D: That’s a good question but it’s not easy for me to answer! I think Bagan in Myanmar is absolutely an amazing place to visit! Hundreds of small temples and pagodas cover an area of over 36 km². This scenery looks so unreal! Like a movie set build for a Disney movie. I believe everyone will get enchanted by this masterpiece!
The other country I will recommend for travel and photography is India. In india, you will always be surprised by every corner.
A: People can always get curiously and feel enjoyed when see your photos, and inspire them with a feeling of ‘why not go for traveling now?’ So what is your feeling about nature?
D: Nature makes me feel alive, thankful, and happy – it enhances my senses! It makes me realize how do myself connect to everything and everyone.
A: You mentioned humanity photographs, that reminds me of those portraits in your website’s gallery, as for you, what are the differences between landscape photography and humanity photographs?
D: To be honest I prefer my humanity photographs more than my landscapes photographs. In my humanity photographs there are different stories – I found them on the streets or markets or somewhere else and talked with them, I believe we create another type of connection there.
That means when you shoot humanity photographs, you have to be much more sensitive. I mean you work with people with feelings and attend into them and be a part of their intimate zone. You have to talk with them. You have to ask their permissions to take photos of their life. If you photograph landscapes for the tree or stone, it’s total different.
A: Throw back to your photography experience, who have ever inspired you through your life?
D: For me, Sebastio Salgado who is a black and white photographer inspired me most with amazing pictures in his Portfolio.
Besides, I also like the works of Art Wolfe, Peter Lik and of course Steve McCurry.
A: As an experienced landscape and seascape photographer, I wonder if you have some precious experiences that deserve to share to other photographers?
D: Focus on one or two subjects instead of being on too many subjects every day without destination. And please do not be afraid to think you’ll miss a few photos.
Moreover, Visit them also at different times of the day. the light the clouds the hole conditions are different every hour every day!
A: Thank you. At last, please recommend one of more NiSi filters that you can’t work without.
D: Sure. I love and uses to work with NiSi HUC C-PL PRO Nano 77mm Circular Polarizer Filter, NiSi 150x170mm Medium GND Filter and NiSi 150x150mm 6 stops ND filter.
